The Policing Pledge
The Policing Pledge is a national initiative, under which Police Forces are expected to deliver a 10 point plan to ensure law abiding citizens are supported and kept safe from harm. It came into effect on 31 December 2008. You can read more on Gloucestershire Constabulary's website.
The Policing Pledge tells you the level of service you can expect to receive from the Constabulary. It includes a pledge to answer calls promptly, hold regular meetings in the community to set policing priorities, give updates on local crime and policing issues and provide information on how you will be supported if you are a victim of crime. The national pledge is underpinned by local pledges, and within Gloucestershire these are tailored for each of our 55 communities. Click here for more information.
The Authority's oversight and scrutiny role
Gloucestershire Police Authority fully supports the Policing Pledge. The Police Authority consults with local people as your views are critical to the delivery of a responsive police service that reflects local concerns. Policing priorities and the Policing Pledge are ways of ensuring your expectations of the police are met and that the Police are focused on addressing concerns in your area.
It is our role, on behalf of all local people, to ensure that Gloucestershire Constabulary lives up to the promises made to you as part of the Pledge. We will fulfill this role through ongoing monitoring, scrutiny and oversight of the Constabulary.
Our Partnership Communities and Engagement Committee is responsible for assessing Gloucestershire Constabulary against its promises in the Policing Pledge. All our Committee meetings are held in public - as is the full Authority meeting - and you are welcome to become involved by attending any of these meetings.
How can you contribute to scrutiny of the Policing Pledge?
Gloucestershire Police Authority wants to know if the Policing Pledge is being delivered and if it is working for you: Do you see your local Police Officers and Police and Community Support Officers out and about? Do you know who your neighbourhood Safer Community Team Officers are and how to contact them? Do you know when your next local community engagement meeting is? If you are a victim of crime have you been kept updated on the progress of your case?
Gloucestershire Police Authority holds public meetings in your area throughout the year. Please read about the local Policing Pledge and then come along and share your views with Authority Members and your local Policing team.
